OWHA employs the FUNdamentals program for the U7 division, a program that is designed to make children’s first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience. This is a structured, learn-to-play hockey program designed to introduce beginners to the game’s basic skills and enables participants to become contributing members of a team, develop self-confidence and experience a sense of personal achievement. These goals are achieved in an atmosphere of fair play and most importantly FUN!
CRGHA also offers an Intermediate FUNdamentals program that allows girls older than U7 to learn the basics of hockey prior to transitioning into their appropriate age group.

Competitive teams are selected via tryouts usually completed in the spring but, in some circumstances, tryouts may be completed in the summer/fall prior to the start of the season. Competitive teams are organized into tiers, and are identified by letters “C”, “B”, “BB”, "A”, or “AA” following the division identifier (i.e. U11 B, U18 A).
Practices start in August/September with games starting late September or early October. In addition to practices and games (2-3 ice sessions per week), competitive teams can be expected to attend 3-4 tournaments each season with at least 1-2 being out of town. League games wrap up around February, at which point teams that made the playoffs (based on season standings) will continue to a series of playoff games. In addition to playoffs, all competitive teams have the opportunity to participate in provincial play-downs, where the top two teams qualify for OWHA Provincials (usually held in the Greater Toronto Area).
Team fees for Competitive can be expected up to but not exceeding $500. Additionally funds can be procured through fundraising and sponsorship opportunities.
New for the 2023-24 Season, CRGHA will be introducing an enhanced competitive program for teams at levels BB, A, and AA. The competitive program will have an additional fee of $300 for each player. These fees will be used to secure extra ice times and development throughout the season.
